| Shows and Events | May 2009 Valley Visual Artists 15th Annual Show and Sale. . . The Valley Visual Artists 15th Annual Show and Sale at the Civic Centre opened on May 8. There was a tremendous turnout and Mayor Susan Roline was there to officially open the show. Along with the Valley Visual Artists, were special guests, Andrea Rogers and MSS Students and teaching instructor, Linda Suzuki. Visitors to the Civic Centre “Gallery” were treated to music. This was an incredible show put on by the Valley Visual Artists. Along with the great artwork, there were live demonstrations, a “Quick Draw,” and many cards, wooden vases and pots, jewelry, and miniature artwork. The show was moved over to the Courthouse Gallery on May 10 and will be open for viewing until the end of the month. It’s a great show and you won’t want to miss it! The Courthouse Gallery is open Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-8pm, and Friday and Saturday from 10am to 4pm. For more information, contact the gallery at: 250-378-6515 or by e-mail at: artsy@ocis.net | ||||||||

| History | ART IN THE NICOLA VALLEY Artists have been active in the Nicola Valley for centuries, beginning with the First Nations and continued by immigrants from around the world. Public education and modern media brought in new ideas and techniques. Local art clubs were formed and reformed over the years. In 1994 Peggy Williams gathered together like-minded artists, restarting the club in its present form as the Valley Visual Artists. As the membership increased, the club provided workshops and art shows for the community using local school and public facilities. The opening of the Courthouse Gallery by the Nicola Valley Community Arts Council in 2005 has provided a venue for regular local art shows. The Valley Visual Artists now work within the Gallery, offering art workshops and expanding our exhibition program to include an annual art show for non-member artists and artisans. | ||||||||
| Membership Guidelines | MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES As with any community group, VVA can only carry out its activities consistently and successfully when its members volunteer their time and energy to make them happen. With this in mind, membership in the VVA requires a commitment by every member to assist in some specific capacity during the year. These could include activities such as: - helping with an art show, - setting up a workshop, - assisting in the Art Gallery, - serving on the Board of Directors, - advertising events, - fundraising activities, - liaison with other community groups, etc. The Valley Visual Artists can meet your artistic interests and your participation ensures the club can offer a range of art activities. Thank you for your interest in the visual arts in the Nicola Valley. | ||||||||
